Equipment such as old computers, fax machines and light tubes are no longer able to be left to be taken away with your normal refuse, because they contain dangerous materials that are now classified as hazardous waste. Furthermore, if you produce (dispose) over a certain mass in a year, you must register with the Environment Agency as a hazardous waste producer.
